2、anicalpropertiesofexpansiverocks.BasedontheengineeringbackgroundofMiddleRouteofSouth-NorthProject,mechanicalpropertiesofcompactedexpansiverocksarestudiedbelowtheWestHighwayBridge(Pile3300)inBeitianvillageatAnyangsectionofHenanprovince.Maincontentsstudiedareasfollows.(1)Exper

3、imentalresearchonbasicphysicpropertiesandhittingpropertiesofexpansiverocks.Basicphysicpropertiestestsaremainlyfocusedonthenaturalwatercontents,densities,specificgravity,liquidandplasticlimit,aswellasfreeswellingratiooftheexpansiverocksindifferentburieddepths.Accordingtorelev

4、antspecifications,theexpansiverocksbelowtheWestHighwayBridge(Pile3300)inBeitianvillageatAnyangsectionofMiddleRouteofSouth-NorthProjectareweakswellingrocks.Optimalwatercontentsandmaximumdrydensitiesofexpansiverocksindifferentburieddepthsareobtainedbyhittingtests(2)Shearstreng

5、thtestresearchoncompactedexpansiverockswithdifferentwatercontents.Therelationshipbetweenshearstrengthparametersandwatercontentshowstheoveralltrendsthatcohesionandfictionanglesdecreasewiththeincreaseofwatercontentsandthereisanearlylinearrelationshipbetweencohesionandwatercont

6、entbyfitting.(3)Triaxialcompressiontestresearchoncompactedexpansiverockswithdifferentwatercontents.Watercontenthasalargeeffectonthestress-strainrelationship,mechanicalstrength,deformationandfailureproperties.Thestress-straincurvesofexpansiverocksshowpropertiesofstrainhardeni

7、ng,andthestressstraindiagramcanbeclassifiedintofourperiods,namelycompactionperiod,linearelasticperiod,yieldperiodandstrainhardeningperiod.Thepeakstrengthdecreaseswiththeincreasingofwatercontents,butitincreaseslinearlywiththeincreasingofconfiningpressure.Theshearstrengthparam
