3、stedthatacampusnetworkliaisonshouldcontactthenetworkoperatortowhichheisdirectlyconnected.Thatis,ifyouareconnectedtoaregionalnetwork(whichisgatewayedtotheNSFnet,whichisconnectedtotheARPAnet...)andhaveaproblem,youshouldcontactyourregionalnetworkoperationscenter.1O
4、peratingtheInternetRFCsTheinternalworkingsoftheInternetaredefinedbyasetofdocumentscalledRFCs(RequestforComments).ThegeneralprocessforcreatinganRFCisforsomeonewantingsomethingformalizedtowriteadocumentdescribingtheissueandmailingittoJonPostel(postel@isi.edu).Heac
5、tsasarefereefortheproposal.Itisthencommenteduponbyallthosewishingtotakepartinthediscussion(electronicallyofcourse).Itmaygothroughmultiplerevisions.Shoulditbegenerallyacceptedasagoodidea,itwillbeassignedanumberandfiledwiththeRFCs.TheRFCscanbedividedintofivegroups
6、:required,suggested,directional,informationalandobsolete.RequiredRFC's(e.g.RFC-791,TheInternetProtocol)mustbeimplementedonanyhostconnectedtotheInternet.SuggestedRFCsaregenerallyimplementedbynetworkhosts.LackofthemdoesnotprecludeaccesstotheInternet,butmayimpactit
7、susability.RFC-793(TransmissionControlProtocol)isasuggestedRFC.DirectionalRFCswerediscussedandagreedto,buttheirapplicationhasnevercomeintowideuse.Thismaybeduetothelackofwideneedforthespecificapplication(RFC-937ThePostOfficeProtocol)orthat,althoughtechnicallysupe
