PNEUMATICSGeneral Pneumatics,fromtheGreekケνευματικός(means-comingfromthewind)Pneumaticswasfirstdocumentedin60A.DPascal'sprinciple,statesthatpressureisconstantthroughoutastaticfluid. Pneumaticsaregenerallyusedforapplicationsinvolvinglessforcethanhydraulicapplications. Pneumaticsmaybecontrastedwithhydraulics,whichusesincompressibleliquidmediasuchasoilorwaterinsteadofair.Airiscompressible,isconsideredtobeafluid,andmostindustrialapplicationsuseapproximately80to100poundspersquareinch(psi)gaugepressure,ascomparedtohydraulicswhicharecommonlyusedfrom1,000to5,000psi,andinsomecases10,000psiandhigher. Bothpneumaticsandhydraulicsareapplicationsoffluidpower.Physicalpneumaticprinciplesconcludethatthepressurethatformsincompressibleliquidscanbeharnessedtoahighpotentialofpower.
