2、iticalproblemtolimittheshortcircuitcurrentlevelseconomicallyandeffectively,whichisyettobesolvedintheplanning，operationandmaintenanceofpowersystems．Faultcurrentlimiters，namelyFCLs，representinganovelfaultcurrentlimitingtechnologywithgreatapplicationprospect，havebeenapopulartopicinr

3、ecentyears．AmongnumeroustypesofFCLs，faultcurrentlimiterbasedonpermanent-magnet-biasedsaturation，namelyPMFCL，possessesoutstandingperformancewithpromisingpracticalityinthehigh-voltageandlarge-capacitysituations．Threecrucialissuesofstraight-linetypePMFCLswereinvestigatedinthisdisser

4、tationforthesakeofengineeringapplicationinhigh-voltagepowergrids，includingeconomicaloptimizationanddesign，optimalallocationinlarge—scalepowergrids，andinfluenceonthetransientstabilityofpowersystems．TheapplicationvalueofFCLsoughttobemainlydominatedbyeconomy,ratherthantechnicalperfo

5、rmanceinhigh-voltageandlarge—capacitycircumstances．Basedonthreeindependentelectromagneticvariablesofinductanceratio，inductancesumandsaturationdepthratio，theeconomicalevaluationandoptimizationmodelswerebuiltastoconverttheeconomicaloptimizationanddesignofPMFCLsintotheissueofoptimal

6、combinationoftheaforementionedthreeelectromagneticvariables．Byvirtueofa500kVcaseforeconomicalanalysis，optimalcostandthecorrespondingstructureparametersofthePMFCLWascalculated．Finiteelementsimulationprovedthevalidityoftheproposedmodels．OptimalallocationofPMFCLsinlarge-scalepowergr
