3、dthechainsofdiscrimination.Onehundredyearslater,theNegrolivesonalonelyislandofpovertyinthemidstofavastoceanofmaterialprosperity.Onehundredyearslater,theNegroisstilllanguishinginthecornersofAmericansocietyandfindshimselfanexileinhisownland.Sowehavecomeheretodaytodramatizeanappallingcondition.Ina

4、sensewehavecometoournation'scapitaltocashacheck.WhenthearchitectsofourrepublicwrotethemagnificentwordsoftheConstitutionandthedeclarationofIndependence,theyweresigningapromissorynotetowhicheveryAmericanwastofallheir.Thisnotewasapromisethatallmenwouldbeguaranteedtheinalienablerightsoflife,liberty

5、,andthepursuitofhappiness.ItisobvioustodaythatAmericahasdefaultedonthispromissorynoteinsofarashercitizensofcolorareconcerned.Insteadofhonoringthissacredobligation,AmericahasgiventheNegropeopleabadcheckwhichhascomebackmarked"insufficientfunds."Butwerefusetobelievethatthebankofjusticeisbankrupt.W
