2、hepublicthatthesafetyoftheU.S.foodsupplyisinfreshsprouts(Breueretal.,2001;Taorminaetal.,1999).jeopardy.Thesereports,aswellasageneraldistrustinfederalagenciesdueinparttomadcowdiseaseandtoxi-PreparationgenicformsofE.coliingroundbeef,haveresultedinanincreasingdemandfor“organic”foodsandani

3、nterestinStandardmicrobiologyprotocolswereusedforthesustainableagriculture(Macilwain,2004).Itis,therefore,preparationofgrowthmedia.Thedetailsforpreparingmate-timelyandappropriatetoprovideclassroomlecturesandrialsandidentifyingbacteriawerebasedonprotocolspro-laboratoryexperiencestoshowt

4、hatmicrobesareubiqui-videdbytheBacteriologicalAnalyticalManualOnline(www.tousinourenvironment,includinginthefoodsthatwecfsan.fda.gov/~ebam/bam-toc.html)andthesupplieroftheeat(Scholthof,2001;Scholthof,2003).Inpresentingsuchdehydratedculturemedia(CarolinaBiologicalSupplyCo.).material,iti

5、simportantthatwedistinguishbetweencom-Twogrowthmediawereused:nutrientbroth-yeastextractmonmicrobesandpotentiallyharmfulpathogens.Inpar-agar(NBY)andpotatodextroseagar(PDA)supplementedticular,itisimperativetoplaceanemphasisonthefactthatwithtwoantibiotics,ampicillinandstreptomycin(PDA-AS)
