3、ummechanics.InPartIanattemptismadetoshedsomelightonthenatureofinformationandquantuminformationtheory.Itisemphasizedthattheeverydaynotionofinformationistobefirmlydistinguishedfromthetechnicalnotionsarisingininformationtheory;howeveritismaintainedthatinbothsettings‘information’fun

4、ctionsasanabstractnoun,hencedoesnotrefertoaparticularorsubstance.Thepopularclaim‘InformationisPhysical’isassessedanditisarguedthatthispropositionfacesadestructivedilemma.Accordingly,thesloganmaynotbeunderstoodasanontologicalclaim,butatbest,asamethodologicalone.Anovelargumentisp

5、rovidedagainstDretske’s(1981)attempttobaseasemanticnotionofinformationonideasfrominformationtheory.Thefunctionofvariousmeasuresofinformationcontentforquantumsystemsisex-ploredandtheapplicabilityoftheShannoninformationinthequantumcontextmain-tainedagainstthechallengeofBruknerand

6、Zeilinger(2001).Thephenomenonofquan-tumteleportationisthenexploredasacasestudyservingtoemphasizethevalueofrecognisingthelogicalstatusof‘information’asanabstractnoun:itisarguedthattheconceptualpuzzlesoftenassociatedwiththisphenomenonresultfromthefamiliarerrorofhypostatizinganabs
