3、canbereduced.Realisticconstitutivemodelofconcretebehaviorenablesasimulationoftherealstructuralbehaviorinserviceaswellasultimateloadingconditions.AnapplicationofsuchapproachisdemonstratedinthisarticleusingthecomputercodeSBETA(ATENA)developedbytheauthors.Extensiveexpe
4、riencewiththeuseofthissoftwareinresearchanddesignshowsthatitcansignificantlyimprovethequalityofstructuralanalysisandserveasanefficientdesigntool.1.IntroductionNonlinearfiniteelementanalysisofconcreteandreinforcedconcretestructureshasbeenundersteadydevelopmentinrecen
5、tdecades.Theworldwideresearcheffortledtotheformulationofsoundconstitutivemodelsaswellasnumericaltechniquesfortheirimplementationincomputersoftware.Theseadvancesmadepossibletheapplicationofnonlinearfiniteelementanalysisinthepracticalengineeringdesign.Thecommercialcom
6、puterprogramsfeaturingnonlinearmaterialmodelsareofferedandcodesofpracticearereflectingthisprogress.Commerciallyavailablecodesallowfortheanalysisofentirestructures,orstructuralmemberswithveryrealisticmaterialbehavior,andasimulationofstructuralperformanceunderrealload
7、ingconditionsispossible.Nonlinearfiniteelementanalysiscaneliminatetheinconsistency,whichexistsinthecurrentlyuseddesignproceduresbetweentheinternalforcedistributiondeterminedfromalinearelasticanalysisandthesectionproportioningbasedonanonlinearmaterialbehavior.Theredi
