2、intheocean.AsanimportantphysicalprocessintheSouthChinaSea,tropicalcyclonehasanimportantimpactonoceanphysics,chemistryandecologicalenvironment.Soitisverymeaningfultounderstandtheresponseoftheupperoceantotropicalcyclones.Inthispaperweusemooredobservationdataandtheremotesensingdataoftrop
3、icalstormWashitostudytheresponsecharacteristicsofupperoceanondynamicandthermodynamicintheNorthwestemSouthChinaSea.Wehavedrawnsomeimportantconclusions,andthemechanismoftheprocessisanalyzedinthepaper.TropicalstormWashipassedthesubsurfacemooringsintheNorthwestemSouthChinaSeaon29to30July2
4、005andtheupperoceanthermalanddynamicalresponsewasexaminedindetail.IntenseseasurfacetemperaturecoolingwasinducedbyWashi,andthemaximumcoolingwas3.6oContherighttrackofWashi.Thewholeobservedwatercolumn(4-75m)wascooledbyWashi,withmaximumcoolingof2。Catthemooringstation.Becauseofthestrongmix
5、ingprocess,themixedlayerdepthdeepensasmuchas10-20m.Thereisastrongupwellinginthelowtemperaturezoneduringtheperiodofthetropicalstorm,andtheEkmanpumpingspeedisgreaterthan1.6x10一m/s.Byusingtheheatbalanceofthemixedlayer,theheatlosscausedbyeachdynamicfactoriscalculated.Theresultsshowthatthe
6、verticalmixingplaysaleadingrole,accountingfor70%,andtheverticalconvectionisrelativelyweak.AfterthepassageofWashi,stronginertialcurrentsaregeneratedbythestormwiththemaxcurrentsupto0.2rn/sintheuppermixlayerandwithaperiodof35h,whichisslightlylessthanthelocalinertialoscillation.Basedonthe
