2、cerningmaritimesafety,RECALLINGALSOthat,byresolution12,theConferenceofContractingGovernmentstotheInternationalConventionfortheSafetyofLifeatSea(SOLAS),1974,beingoftheopinionthatitwouldbedesirablethatships,inparticularpassengerships,befittedwithvoyagedatarecor
3、ders(VDRs)toassistininvestigationsintocasualties,requestedtheMaritimeSafetyCommitteetodevelop,asamatterofurgency,operationalrequirementsandperformancestandardsforsuchrecorders,takingintoaccountanypotentialhumanelementimplications,NOTINGthatconsiderationisbein
4、ggiventothedevelopmentofcarriagerequirementsforVDRsforinclusionintheSOLASConventionattheearliestopportunity,HAVINGCONSIDEREDtherecommendationsmadebytheMaritimeSafetyCommitteeatitssixty-eighthsessionandbytheSub-CommitteeonSafetyofNavigationatitsforty-thirdsess
5、ion,1.ADOPTStheRecommendationonPerformanceStandardsforShipborneVoyageDataRecorders(VDRs),setoutintheannextothepresentresolution;2.INVITESGovernmentstoencourageshipownersandoperatorsofshipsentitledtoflytheirflagtoinstallVDRsonsuchships,assoonaspossible,especia
6、llyconsideringthatthecarriageofVDRsmaysoonbemademandatoryundertheSOLASConvention;3.RECOMMENDSGovernmentstoensurethatVDRsinstalledonboardshipsflyingtheirflagconformtoperformancestandardsnotinferiortothosespecifiedintheAnnextothisresolution;4.REQUESTStheMaritim
