2、spartlyduetothedifferenceinreligion,philosophiesandhistorybetweenthetwocountries.Theydifferinmanyaspectswhilesharingalotincommon.SIMILARITIESTobeginthecomparison,thereisnodearthofsimilaritiesbetweenthetwo.BotharetypicalAsiancultures,survivingsinceafewmillennia.Likealloldcultures,m
3、anyofthetraditionsinbothsocietiesarewovenaroundthefamilystructureandsocialhierarchythattheyhavenurturedoverseveralcenturies.LikealloldEasterncultures,thegenderrolesusedtobehighlydifferentiatedinbothsocieties.Boththesocietiesfollowedapatriarchalsystemofinheritance,andtheheadofthefa
4、milyusedtobetheeldestmale.Inbothsocieties,extendedfamilieswerecommon,andthesocialorderdictatedrequestforeldersandteachers.InbothChinaandJapan,modestyofwomenfolkwaspartoftheculture,thoughrestrictionsonwomenwerefarlesscomparedtothosepracticedinMiddleEastcountries.BothChinaandJapanpr
5、ovidealotofemphasisonConfucianvaluesinlife.Confucianism,alongwithBuddhismisoneofthecommonlinksthatbindthetwocultures.Inbothsocieties,onecanobserveapathytowardsblatantconsumerism,andahightendencytosave,aspartofsocialandmoralfabric.Therearenumeroussimilaritiesinlanguageandvocabulary
6、usedinthetwocountries.Kanji,thesymbolcharactersinJapanhavealotincommontotheChinesecharacters,andcanactuallybethecommonlinkbetweenaChineseandaJapanese,whodonotunderstandeachother'slanguage.Inmoderntimes,bothsocietieshavechangedinsomewhatcomparablemanners.Themajorityofpeopleinbothco
7、untrieshaveadoptedtheWesternoutfitastheusualdefaultdress,andtraditionaloutfitsareusedoccasionallyforcelebrationsandfestivities.However,inspiteofalltheWesterninfluence,bothcountriesstillfollowtheirownlanguageandscript,andthoughChristmasisanimportantevent,boththecountrieshavetheirow
