4、andmuscle,were21.3,13.7,10.2,1.1,and1.0mg/g,respectively,onafreshtissuebasis.Theisolatedpigmentswereidenti-fiedasmelaninsaccordingtotheElectronParamagneticResonanceSpectroscopyspectra.Usingsyntheticmelaninasacalibration,theirphysicochemicalandmorpholog
5、icalpropertieswerefurthercharacterizedbyX-rayphotoelectronspectroscopy(XPS)andadvancedimagingtechnology.ElementalcompositionanalysisbyXPSrevealedthatthemaincomponentoftheSF-melaninwaseumelanin.Themorphologicalstudyshowedthat(1)theSF-melanindisplayedel
6、lipsoidalmelanosomeswhichwasregardedasrepresen-tativeofthenaturalmaterial;and(2)theSF-melaninmaintaineditsnaturalintegrity.Inconclusion,ourenzymaticextractionmethodyieldedhighlypurifiedproductswhilemaintainingthenaturalpropertiesoftheSF-melanin,whichco
