2、acenewdemandsoncapacity.Theanswertothecapacitydemandistheprovisionofnewspectrumandthedevelopmentofanewtechnology-WidebandCDMAorhereinafterreferredtoasWCDMA.WCDMAwasdevelopedinordertocreateaglobalstandardforrealtimemultimediaservicesthatensuredinternationalroaming.With

3、thesupportofITU(InternationalTelecommunicationUnion)aspecificspectrumwasallocated-20Hzfor3Gtelecomsystems.Theworkwaslatertakenoverbythe3GPP(3rdGenerationPartnershipProject),whichisnowtheWCDMAspecificationbodywithdelegatesfromallovertheworld.2.WCDMAadevelopmentfromGSMan

4、dCDMANaturallytherearealotofdifferencesbetweenWCDMAandGSMsystems,huttherearemanysimilaritiesaswell.TheGSMBaseStationSubsystem(BSS)andtheWCDMARadioAccessNetwork(RAN)arebothconnectedtotheGSMcorenetworkforprovidingaradioconnectiontothehandset.Hence,thetechnologiescanshare

5、thesamecorenetwork.Furthermore,bothGSMBSSandWCDMARANsystemsarebasedontheprinciplesofacellularradiosystem.TheGSMBaseStationController(ESC)correspondstotheWCDMARadioNetworkController(RNC).TheGSMRadioBaseStation(RBS)correspondstotheWCDMARES,andtheA-interfaceofGSMwasthebas

6、isofthedevelopmentoftheIu-interfaceofWCDMA,whichmainlydiffersintheinclusionofthenewservicesofferedbyWCDMA.Thesignificantdifferences,apartfromthelackofinterfacebetweentheGSMBSCsandGSMAbis-interfacetoprovidemulti-vendoroperability,aremoreofasystemicmatter.TheGSMsystemuse
