4、swithlowripple.Themainadvantageofthismethodisgreaterefficiencybecausetheswitchingtransistordissipateslittlepowerinthesaturatedstateandtheoffstatecomparedtothesemiconductingstate(activeregion).Otheradvantagesincludesmallersizeandlighterweight(fromtheeliminationoflow
5、frequencytransformerswhichhaveahighweight)andlowerheatgenerationduetohigherefficiency.Disadvantagesincludegreatercomplexity,thegenerationofhighamplitude,highfrequencyenergythatthelow-passfiltermustblocktoavoidelectromagneticinterference(EMI),andaripplevoltageatthes
6、witchingfrequencyandtheharmonicfrequenciesthereof.AnoteaboutterminologyAlthoughtheterm"powersupply"hasbeeninusesinceradioswerefirstpoweredfromtheline/mains,thatdoesnotmeanthatitisasourceofpower,inthesensethatabatteryprovidespower.Itissimplyadevicethat(usually)accep
