3、n,asinacomputer;however,togivethebarestofdefinition,languageisameansofverbalcommunication.Itisinstrumentalinthatcommunicatingbyspeakingorwritingisapurposefulact.Itissocialandconventionalinthatlanguageisasocialsemioticandcommunicationcanonlytakeplaceeffectivelyifallt
4、heusersshareabroadunderstandingofhumaninteractionincludingsuchassociatedfactorsasnonverbalcues,motivation,andsocia-culturalroles.Concerningculture,oneofthebestearlydefinitionswasgivenbyE.BTaylor,whodefinedcultureas“thatcomplexwholewhichincludesknowledge,belief,art,m
5、orals,law,custom,andanyothercapabilitiesandhabitsacquiredbymanasamemberofsociety.”Sincethen,hundredsofdefinitionshaveemergedwiththeboomingofculturestudies.Ingeneral,theword“culture”seemstohavebeenusedinthefollowingthreecategoriesofreference:Inthefirstcategory,cultur
6、eistechnicallyusedbyethnologistsandhistorianstocoverasociallyinheritedelementinthelifeofhumanbeings,whichcanbebothmaterialandspiritual.Inthiscase,culturepossessesthesameelementsasthe“civilization”ofhumanbeing,forexample,“humanculture”.Thesecondapplicationoftheterm“c
