3、ents,orstudywhichitemsmatchthelanguagedomainofinterest.ItemResponseTheory(IRT)orlatenttraittheory,asithasbeenvariouslytermed,isageneralmeasurementtheorydevelopedindependentlybyBirnbaumintheUnitedStatesandbyRaschinDenmak.Itreferstoprimarily,butnotentirely,threefamiliesofanalytical

4、procedures.Theseareidentifiedastheone-parameter,thetwo-parameterandthethree-parameterlogisticmodels.Whatthesemodelshaveincommonisasystematicprocedureforconsideringandquantifyingtheprobabilityorimprobabilityofindividualitemandpersonresponsepatternsgiventheoverallpatternofresponses

5、inasetoftestdata.Theyalsooffernewandimprovedwaysfortheestimationofitemdifficultyandpersonability.ThearticleiswrittentoillustratewhyitemanalysisandItemResponseTheory(IRT)areusefulforteacherswhentheyconstructtestsandexaminingmeasurementequivalence.Theintroductioncontainsthreeparts:
