1、MANUALGEARBOXES9.1MANUALGEARBOXCLASSIFICATIONGearboxesarenormallyclassifiedaccordingtothenumberoftoothedwheelcouples(stages)involvedinthetransmissionofmotionatagivenspeed;inthecaseofmanualvehicletransmissions,thenumbertobetakenintoaccountisthatoftheforwardspeedsonly,with
2、outconsiderationofthefinalgear,evenifincludedinthegearbox.Thereforethereare:•Singlestagegearboxes•Dualstageorcountershaftgearboxes•MultistagegearboxesFigure9.1showsthethreeconfigurationsforafourspeedgearbox.Itisusefultocommentonthegenerallyadoptedrulesoftheseschemes.Eachw
3、heelisrepresentedbyasegmentwhoselengthisproportionaltothepitchdiameterofthegear;thesegmentisendedbyhorizontalstrokes,representingthetoothwidth.Ifthesegmentisinterruptedwherecrossingtheshaft,thegearwheelisidle;theoppositeoccursifthesegmentcrossesthelineoftheshaftwithouti
4、nterruption.Thenthewheelrotateswiththeshaft.Hubsarerepresentedaccordingtothesamerules,whilesleevesarerepresentedwithapairofhorizontalstrokes.Arrowsshowtheinputandoutputshafts.Singlestagegearboxesareprimarilyappliedtofrontwheeldrivenvehicles,becauseintheseitisusefulthatt
