2、oneofthefouressentialskillsinEnglishlearning,isanimportantchannelofacquiringandexchanginginformationforforeignlanguagelearners.InChina,Englishistakenasamajorcoursebothinhighschoolandatcollege.Moreover,theChinesecollegestudentsfindlisteningdifficultandevenhardtoimprove,especiallyfo
3、rthehighervocationalstudentswithalowerEnglishlevel.1.1ListeningSituationofLearningandTeachingofHVCStudentsOnonehand,forvocationalandtechnicalstudents,whohavelimitedlanguageenvironmentandinadequateself-learningawareness,theirEnglishbaseisoflowquality.Firstly,theyareshortofvocabular
4、yandcannotgraspthecomplexityofwordmeaningskillfully.Ifanunfamiliarwordcomestothelisteningcomprehension,listenersdon’thaveenoughtimetospeculatethemeaningofanunfamiliarword.Sotheymayfeeldiscouragedthattheycannotkeepupwiththelanguagewhenitisspokenatitsnormalspeed.Secondly,studentsdon
5、’tpayattentiontothepronunciationofthewords,theycannotfigureouttheslightpronunciationdifferenceofthenativespeaker.Inaddition,someotherphoneticknowledgesuchasstress,assimilation,elision,liaison,lossofexplosivecandirectlyinfluencestudents’listeningcomprehension.Ifstudentsdon’thavesuf
6、ficientphoneticknowledge,theycouldhavedifficultyininterpretingthewordstheyhear,etc.Alltheseproblemspreventthemfromimprovingthelisteningcapacity.Ontheotherhand,manyEnglishteachersinHVCjustfollowtheverytraditionalwaythatlisteningisnotbeingtaughtbuttested.Firstly,theyassumethatlisten
