2、n-teenthcenturies,theSwedishcourtanduniversitiesinsistedmilitantlythatthekingdomwastheGothichomeland,andthishasfosteredanassumptionthatGothicismrepresentsakindofembryonicnationalism.Thisinterpreta-tionwasalmostinevitablegiventhecircumstancesofmoderninterestinthephenomenon.Scandinaviansc
3、holarsweretheÞrsttopickuptheGothicthreadintheearliertwentiethcentury,andSwedesinparticularhavedomi-natedtheliteratureonGothicism.Atleastintheearlyyears,thismaybeSomeofthismaterialwaspresentedattheconferenceOnOppositeSidesoftheBalticSea.RelationsBetweenScandinaviaandCentralEuropeanCountr
