4、ough1centuryBCE.Eachpresentsfromadifferentperspectiveideasaboutthemechanismoftimeandhistory.WhileonlytheZuozhuaniscommonlycategorizedashistoricalnarrative,allfourofthesetextsdependonrecordsofthepasttoconveytheirworldview.Inparticular,Iexaminetheritual,performative,andsupernaturalelementstha
5、tplayacentralroleinthesewritings,astheyarekeytoacquiringadeeperunderstandingoftheprevailingconceptsoftimethatshapethinkingabouthistory,andthenarrativesconstructedtoconveythathistory.Thedissertation,inspiredbythe“untimely”(bushi不時)comingoftheunicornattheendoftheZuozhuan,tracesthecomplextempo
