5、emolluscagobacktothebeginningofsystematiczoology,inthattwospeciesdescribedinLinne'sSystemanaturaearestatedtobefromChina.Theliteratureiswidelyscattered,somerecordsoccurringinwellknownjournals,othersinpapers,booksandpamphletsdifficultofaccess.Intheearlyliteratureth
6、edescrip-tionsareusuallybriefandoftennotillustrated,whichmakesitdifficulttointerprettheearlynameswithadequateaccuracy;aknowledgeofthehistoricalbackgroundmaybeessentialtousetheoldrecordsasafoundationforfurtherprogress.Myprimaryobjectinthesestudiesistoillustrateasf
