3、nalmeetingshavebeenheld,andamultitudeofpublicationshaveappeared.TranslationsoftheoriginalHan(Chinese)textsandcharactershaveproliferated.Numerousproblemsduetodifferencesofspellingandpronunciationhavearisen.Today,thesameacupuncturepointsmayhaveawidevarietyofnamesbecauseofthesedifferences.Further

4、more,tohelpthosewhodonotreadHancharacters,avarietyofalphanumericcodeshavebeengiventomeridianandacupuncturepoints.Theneedforstandardizationhasbecomeincreasinglypressing.InDecember1982,theWHORegionalOfficefortheWesternPacificconvenedaworkinggroupmeetinginManilaonthestandardizationofacupuncture.T

5、hiswasfollowedbyaseriesofmeetingsbetween1985and1989whichratifiedthedecisionsoftheworkinggroupandmadeitpossibletopresentthematerialasitappearsinthisrevisededition.Inthissecondedition,eachofthe361entrieshasthreeparts:(1)thestandardizednameoftheclassicalpoint,(2)abriefexplanationofthenameofthepoi
