3、justtosatisfythemetaphysicalrequirementonbeingresponsibleforone'saction.(Clearly,therewillalsobeepistemicconditionsonresponsibilityaswell,suchasbeingaware—orfailingthat,beingculpablyunaware—ofrelevantalternativestoone'sactionandofthealternatives'moralsignificanc

4、e.)Butthesignificanceoffreewillisnotexhaustedbyitsconnectiontomoralresponsibility.Freewillalsoappearstobeaconditionondesertforone'saccomplishments(whysustainedeffortandcreativeworkarepraiseworthy);ontheautonomyanddignityofpersons;andonthevalueweaccordtoloveandfr

6、sontherangeofoptionswecanmeaningfullytrytoundertake.Asthepresenceorabsenceoftheseconditionsandconstraintsarenot(usually)ourresponsibility,itisplausiblethatthecentrallociofourresponsibilityareourchoices,or“willings.”Ihaveimpliedthatfreewillingsarebutasubsetofwill
