4、,howcommonthecopyingofmusicalCDshasbecomeinthelastfewyears.Naturally,thissituationhasraisedmanyconcernsaboutpossibleviolationsofintellectualpropertyrights.Unauthorizedduplicationanddistributionofcopyrightedmaterial(photographs,music,movies,etc.),withoutappropriatecompensationtothecopyrightholders,a
5、rebecomingincreasinglyproblemtic.Inordertofightpiracy,manycompanies(especiallyintheentertainmentandnewsindustries)havedevotedconsiderableattentiontothedevelopmentofinformationhiding(orwatermarking)techniques.Inplainterms,awatermarkisasignalwhichishideninsidesomemultimediadata,andcarriesinformationa
6、boutthisdata(e.g.,owner,title,dataofcreation,ect).Thusawatermarkuniquelyidentifiestheworkbeingprotected,andhelpsresolvedisputesabouttheownershipofthedata.Therehavebeenmanyinstancesofdisputesorlitigationsontheintellectualownershipofmultimediadata.Acopyrightviolationslawsuitthatreceivedextensivepubli
