3、sbeenobservedexperimentally.Arelativisticquantum-mechanicaldescriptionofsingle-photonstateswillthenbeoutlined.Withinsuchasingle-photonschemeaderiva-tionoftheBerry-phaseforphotonswillgiven.Inthesecondsetoflectureswewilldiscussthehighlyidealizedsystemofasingletwo-levelatominteractingw

6、edtotheleadingeigenvalueofacertainprobabilityconservingtime-evolutionoperator,whichonecanstudyinordertoelucidatethephasestructure.Itisfoundthatasafunctionofthetime-of- ightthetransitionfromthethermaltothemaserphaseischaracterizedbyasharppeakinthecorrelationlength.Forlongertimes-of-
