3、heBelltowerwasfirstbuiltinYingXiangtemplein1384duringtheMingdynasty.Itwasmovedtoitspresentsitein1582asaresultofthecity‘sexpansionprogram. Ladiesandgentlemen,ThereisastoryabouttheBellTower.It’ssaidthatthefirstemperorofMingdynasty,Zhuyuanzhang,hewasborninapoorfamily.Bothhi
4、sparentdiedwhenhewasyoung,andhehadtoliveahardlife.Later,hewenttoatempletobecomeamonk.Whenheascendedthethrone,hewasafraidofbeingdeposedbysomeoneof“realdragon”.Therefore,hegaveorderstobuildbelltoweralloverthecountytorepressthe“dragonspirits”.Xi’anhasbeentheimperialcapitalc
5、itysinceancienttimes.Sothe“dragonspirits”mustbeverystronghere.That’swhythebelltowerinXi’anwasnotonlybuiltearlier,butalsobiggerthantheotheronesinthecountry.Thebaseofthetoweris1,337.4squaremetersinsize,8.6metershighand35.5meterswide.Itwaslaidwithbluebricksallover.Thewholeb
6、uildingis36metersaboveground.Itisabrick-and–woodstructure.Theeavesaresupportedbycolored“dougong”atraditionalstructuralsysteminwhichbracketsareusedtojoincolumnsandcrossbeams,theuseofdougongmadethewholebuildingfirmandbeautiful. Well,nextwewillvisittheDrumTowernearly. TheDr
