5、workstorage,webcashing,internetstorage,andactivenetworks.Asthegapbetweenprocessorandmemoryspeedisgrowingexponentially,itbecomesmoreimportanttodevelopananalyticalmodeltocaptureallthesehierarchicallevelsandoptimizesystemperformancebyoptimizingthememoryaccesstimetomakeagoodutilizationofbothCPUandmemo

6、ry.Agoalofacomputerarchitectistodesignamemoryhierarchythatminimizestheresponsetimeofhissystemandmaintainaminimalcost.Thisrequiresdecidingonthenumber,speedandsizeofthehierarchicallayers.Inthisworkwestudytheperformanceofsystemswithmulti-levelhierarchicalmemoriesbystudyingthememoryhitratios,meanandva
