4、otherapplications,includingsensorsandfiberlasers.Opticalfiberstypicallyincludeatransparentcoresurroundedbyatransparentcladdingmaterialwithalowerindexofrefraction.Lightiskeptinthecorebytotalinternalreflection.Thiscausesthefibertoactasawaveguide.Fibersthatsupport

5、manypropagationpathsortransversemodesarecalledmulti-modefibers(MMF),whilethosethatonlysupportasinglemodearecalledsingle-modefibers(SMF).Multi-modefibersgenerallyhaveawidercorediameter,andareusedforshort-distancecommunicationlinksandforapplicationswherehighpower
