2、n(1997)isextendedtoaccountforthevariationofslidingspeedandstrainrateinrollinganddrawingprocesses.Itisassumedthatoilistrappedinisolatedpitsintheinletandisthensubsequentlydrawnoutbyrelativeslidingbetweenthetoolandworkpieceinthebite.Thevariationofpressurei

3、smodelledusingReynoldsequationandtheeffectofbulkdeformationinthestripisincludedinmodellingtheasperitydeformation.Resultsshowthatallofthefollowingfactorsareimportant:pitangle,lubricantviscosityandpressureviscositycoefficient,materialyieldstressandsliding

4、speed.Theorypredictsthatpitsarelesseasilyeliminatedatlowerspeeds,wherethelubricantismoredifficulttobedrawnoutofthepits.Pitswithlowslopesarerelativelyeasiertobecrushed,againbecausethisfacilitatestheoilbeingdrawnoutofthecontact.Themodelisverifiedbydrawing

5、experimentsoncoldrolledstripandmeasurementsonthesamplesrolledunderindustrialconditions.Agreementisgoodforthestripdrawingtests,butlessgoodfortherollingtests.Inthelatercase,itissuggestedthatthepitsmaynotbebehavingasentirelyisolatedpits,orthattheadditional
