3、halfcentury,Americadefendedourownfreedombystandingwatchondistantborders.Aftertheshipwreckofcommunismcameyearsofrelativequiet,yearsofrepose,yearsofsabbatical-andthentherecameadayoffire. Wehaveseenourvulnerability-andwehaveseenitsdeepestsource.Foraslongaswholeregionsoft
4、heworldsimmerinresentmentandtyranny-pronetoideologiesthatfeedhatredandexcusemurder-violencewillgather,andmultiplyindestructivepower,andcrossthemostdefendedborders,andraiseamortalthreat.Thereisonlyoneforceofhistorythatcanbreakthereignofhatredandresentment,andexposethepretensionso
5、ftyrants,andrewardthehopesofthedecentandtolerant,andthatistheforceofhumanfreedom. Weareled,byeventsandcommonsense,tooneconclusion:Thesurvivaloflibertyinourlandincreasinglydependsonthesuccessoflibertyinotherlands.Thebesthopeforpeaceinourworldistheexpansionoffreedominal
