3、cowlinthepassagecompartment(Afewsystemuseonlysensors—oneinfrontoftheradiatorandantherinthepassengercompartment).Thereisaninterlockbetweenthesensors,sothattwoormoremustworktogethertotriggerthesystem.Theairbagsystemsaredesignedtodeployincaseoffrontalcollisionsonly.TheSRSairba

4、ginflatorcontainsasolidchemicalgasgenerator.ThesolidchemicalsaresafelystoredinametalchamberinsidetheSRSairbagmodule.Eachinflatorissealedtokeepoutmoisture.SRSairbagaredesignedtodeployinmoderatetomajorcrashesonlyandshouldnotdeployinminorcrashes.Thefollowingfourstepsshowhowthe

5、SRSairbagworks:1.Inanimpact,sensorsinthecardetectthesuddendeceleration.Ifthecrashidsevereenough,electricityflowstotheinflatorandcausesignitionofthegasgenerator.2.Thegasgeneratorthenrapidlyburnsinthemetalchamber.Therapidburningproducesinertgasesandamountsofdust.Theinsertgase

6、sanddustarecooledandfilteredduringinflationoftheairbag.3.Theinflatingairbagsplitsopenthetrimcover.Theairbagthenrapidlyunfoldsandinflatesinfrontoftheoccupant.4.Afterinflation,thegasisventedthroughopeningsoropenweaveareasintheairbag.Thesestepstakeplaceinafractionofasecond.Air
