4、ture,havemaintainedalowlevelofexploration.Sinceeachbasinhasarelativelydifferentsedimentaryhis-tory,weneedtomakeexplorationofeachbasinandsub-basinindetailtograsptheexplorationprospectsoftheEastAfricanRiftSystem.Inthispaper,startingfromtheoverallgeologicalsettingoftheEastAfric

5、anRift,weanalyzethetectonicevolutionoftheEastAfricanRift,studythepetro-leumgeologicalfeaturesofsevenmajorgrabensofthewesternbranch,thencombinewiththeex-plorationhistoryofdifferentregions,andweobtaintheevaluationresultsofthewesternbranch(Lakes)oftheEastAfricanRift.Wethinkthat

6、theoilandgasresourcesofAlbertGrabenandTan-ganyikaGrabenareveryrichandhaveagreatexplorationpotential;theoilandgasresourcesofMalawiGrabens(NyasaGrabens),RukwaGrabens,RuhuhuGrabensareabundant.Althoughthereisalackofexplorationanddevelopment,theystillhaveacertainexplorationpotent
