2、ionalClassificationofDiseases,ICD-10,underthecodeT78.4.Interestingly,thiscodeisfor“allergy,otherwisenotspecified”.Therecentreport“AllergytheUnmetNeed”,RoyalCollegeofPhysicians,June2003,recordsthehugeincreaseinallergyintheUKwith1personin3sufferingsomeformofal
3、lergy,atotalof18millionpeople.Ofthese18millionsome3millionsufferfromsevereallergieswhichcanbelife-threateningandrequireemergencytreatment.ThereleaseoftheRoyalCollegeofPhysician’sreportcoincidedwiththepublicationof,anotherverylargereport,theRoyalCommissiononE
4、nvironmentalPollution,24thReport,“ChemicalsinProducts:safeguardingtheenvironmentandhumanhealth.”Thisreportidentifiestheneedforaproperunderstandingofthehealtheffectsofnovelchemicalswidelyusedinsocietyanddistributedubiquitouslyintheenvironment.Some30,000chemic
5、alswithlittleornotoxicologynowneedtobeassessed,anenormousundertaking.Idonotthinkthesereportsareunrelated.Theriseofallergy,chemicaltoxicityandMCSareconsistentwiththedisturbingdatainthesereports.TheGermanshavesurelyembarkedontherightcourse.IfwearetoengagewithM
6、CSasafeatureofhealthcareinourmodernsocietiesandevenmoresointhedevelopingeconomiesofwhatissometimesreferredtoasthethirdworldthenweneednewwaysofdiagnosingandtreatingMCSandrelatedillnesses.Otherwisetherewillbealegacyofill-healthaddedtotheburdenofthirdworldcount
7、riesandthepoorinallsocieties.IntheUSAofficialrecognitionhascomeintheformofreportsfromtheDepartmentofJustice,theDepartmentofHousingandUrbanDevelopment,andtheDepartmentofEducation,whichacceptMCSasalegitimateconditionfortheirpurposes,CFIDSChronicle,1997.Medical
