3、rforbearers,andtruetoourfoundingdocuments.Soithasbeen.SoitmustbewiththisgenerationofAmericans.Thatweareinthemidstofcrisisisnowwellunderstood.Ournationisatwar,againstafar-reachingnetworkofviolenceandhatred.Oureconomyisbadlyweakened,aconsequenceofgreedandirresponsibilityonthepartofsome,butalsoourcolle
4、ctivefailuretomakehardchoicesandpreparethenationforanewage.Homeshavebeenlost;jobsshed;businessesshuttered.Ourhealthcareistoocostly;ourschoolsfailtoomany;andeachdaybringsfurtherevidencethatthewaysweuseenergystrengthenouradversariesandthreatenourplanet.Thesearetheindicatorsofcrisis,subjecttodataandsta
5、tistics.Lessmeasurablebutnolessprofoundisasappingofconfidenceacrossourland—anaggingfearthatAmerica'sdeclineisinevitable,andthatthenextgenerationmustloweritssights.TodayIsaytoyouthatthechallengeswefacearereal.Theyareseriousandtheyaremany.Theywillnotbemeteasilyorinashortspanoftime.Butknowthis,America—
