3、controlorextinguishfires:Toaccomplishthis,thesystemsprinklersmustopen,andtherequiredamountofwatertoachievecontrolorextinguishmentmustbedeliveredtothefirelocation.Afiredetectionsystemisintendedtoprovidesufficientearlywarningofafiretopermitoccupantnotificationandescape,andinsomecasesactivationof

5、aswellastenabilityalongescaperoutesforsomespecifiedperiodoftime.Inordertoaccomplishthis,theconstructionfeaturesmustbefire“rated”(basedonstandardtests)andtheintegrityofthefeaturesmaintained.Thereliabilityofindividualfireprotectionstrategiessuchasdetection,automaticsuppression,andconstructioncom

6、partmentationisimportantinputtodetailedengineeringanalysesassociatedwithperformancebaseddesign.Inthecontextofsafetysystems,thereareseveralelementsofreliability,includingbothoperationalandperfornzancereliability.Operationalreliabilityprovidesameasureoftheprobabilitythatafireprotectionsystemwill
