2、2.27Mandthedeepestbeing5M.Ithasmountainsonthreesidesandthecityontheremainingoneside.Thelakeandmountainaremagnificent.CenteredontheWestLake,theWestLakeScenicAreaisanationalscenicareawithatotalareaof59KM2.Thereareover60culturalrelicsitesofstate,provincialandmunic
3、ipallevelsandover100attractions.Amongthem,themostclassicistheTenScenesandtheNewTenScenesattheWestLake.LeifengPagoda（雷峰塔）LeifengPagodaisafivestorytalltowerwitheightsides,locatedonSunsetHillsouthoftheWestLakeinHangzhou.OriginallyconstructedintheyearAD975,itcollap
4、sedin1924butwasrebuiltin2002,sincewhenithasbeenapopulartouristattraction.LeifengPagodawasoneofthetensightsoftheWestLakebecauseoftheLegendoftheWhiteSnake.Theoriginalpagodawasbuiltin975AD,duringFiveDynastiesandTenKingdomsperiod,attheorderofKingQianChu(bornQianHon
5、gchu)ofWuyue.ItwasbuilttocelebratethebirthofQianChu'sson,borntohisHuangFei.TheLeifengPagodawasanoctagonal,five-storystructurebuiltofbrickandwoodandwithabasebuiltoutofbricks.DuringtheMingdynasty,JapanesepiratesattackedHangzhou.Suspectingthepagodacontainedweapons
6、,theyburneditswoodenelements,leavingonlythebrickskeleton,ascanbeseenfromMingpaintingsoftheWestLake.OntheafternoonofSeptember25,1924,thepagodafinallycollapsedduetodisrepair.Therewasamausoleumbelow.OnMarch11,2001themausoleumwasexcavatedandmanytreasureswerefound,m
7、ostnotablyagoldandsilvercoatedhairoftheBuddha.InOctober1999,theprovincialandmunicipalgovernmentsdecidedtorebuildLeifengPagodaovertheruinsoftheoldone.Thenewpagodaopenedon25October2002.Itiscomposedofa1400tonnesteelstructurewith200tonnesofcopperparts.Itcontainsfou
8、rsightseeingelevators,andmodernfeaturesincludingairconditioners,televisionsandspeakers.Attheentranceofthepagodatherearetwoautonomousescalatorstocarryvisitorstothepagoda'sfoo
