PLOT©2009ZaoeyoS.C.ProductionsTonyStark(RobertDowneyJr.)gamblesataLasVegascasino,leavinghisdeceasedfather'sfriendandbusinesspartner,ObadiahStane(JeffBridges),toacceptaprestigiousawardforhim.AsStarkleavesthecasinowithhisentourage,heisapproachedbyreporterChristineEverhart(LeslieBibb),whomhecharmsintoaone-nightstandathisMalibuhouse.Whensheawakensthenextmorning,StarkisgoneandsheiscoldlygreetedandhelpedonthewaybyPepperPotts(GwynethPaltrow),hispersonalassistant.Starkfliesofftowar-tornAfghanistanwithhisfriendandcompanymilitaryliaison,LieutenantColonelJamesRhodes(TerrenceHoward),forademonstrationofStarkIndustries'newweapon,the"Jericho"clustermissile.Onthewayback,however,hismilitaryconvoyisattacked.Inthefirefight,hisescortiswipedoutandStarkhimselfisknockedunconsciousbyoneofhisowncompany'sbombs.WakingupinanAfghancave,hediscoversanelectromagnetembeddedinhischest,placedtherebyfellowcaptiveDr.Yinsen(ShaunToub).Poweredbyacarbattery,itkeepsshrapnelfromworkingitswaytohisheartandkillinghim.StarkhasbeencapturedbyaterroristgroupknownastheTenRings,whoseleader,Raza(FaranTahir),ordersStarktobuildaJerichomissileforhim.Instead,duringhisthreemonthsofcaptivity,heandYinsenbeginsecretlybuildingacrudesuitofarmor,poweredbyaminiature"arcreactor"inventedbyStark'sfather.Finally,theterroristsgrowimpatientandgiveStark24hourstofinish.Unfortunately,thedeadlineexpiresbeforethesuitisfullyactivated,soYinsenmakesasuicidalattackinadesperatebidtobuytime.Oncethearmorisready,Starkchargesthroughthecaves.Neartheentrance,adyingYinsentellshimnottowastehislife.ForevergratefultoYinsen,Starkburnsallthemunitionstheterroristshaveaccumulatedandthenfliesaway,onlytocrashinthedesert.Starksurvives,buthissuitisinpieces.AfterbeingrescuedbyRhodes,Starkannouncesatapressconferencethathiscompanywillnolongermanufactureweapons.StanetellshimshortlythereafterthathisdecisionisbeingblockedbytheboardofdirectorsofStarkIndustries.Starkfocuseshisenergiesonbuildingabetterversionofhispowersuit,whilemakinganimprovedarcreactorforhischest.PottsgivesStarkagift:hisfirstminiaturereactorencasedinglassandbearingtheinscription,"ProofthatTonyStarkhasaheart".DuringStark'sfirstpublicappearancesincehisreturn,hespotsPottswearingasexydressandrealizesthathehasromanticfeelingsforhisassistant.Astheyareabouttoshareakiss,Pottsinterruptsbyaskingforamartini.Whileorderingthedrinks,StarkisaccostedbyEverhart,whoshowshimpicturesofStarkIndustriesweapons,includingJerichomissiles,recentlydeliveredtoinsurgents.HerealizesthatStanehasbeensupplyingboththeAmericansandtheirenemies,andattemptingtoremoveStarkfrompower.Enraged,Starkdonsthepowersuit,fliestoAfghanistanandrescuesavillagefromtheTenRings.Whileleaving,StarkattractstheattentionoftheUnitedStatesAirForce,whichdispatchestwoF-22Raptorstotrytoidentifythemysteriousflyingobject.Rhodeswantstoinvestigate,butisoverruledandthefightersareorderedtodestroythetarget.Duringtheresultingdogfight,StarkhastimetocallRhodestorevealthatheistheunidentifiedtarget.OneoftheplanesisaccidentallydestroyedwhenitcollideswithStark.Thepilotejects,buthisparachutewillnotdeploy,soStarkrescueshimbeforeescaping.StarksendsPottstohackintothecompanycomputersystem.ShediscoversthatStanehiredtheTenRingstokillStark.Thegrouprenegedonthedealupondiscoveringwhothetargetwas,whichultimatelysealstheirfatewhenStanehasthemeliminatedlater.ShealsolearnsStanehasrecoveredthepiecesoftheoriginalpowersuitandreverse-engineeredhisownversion,onemuchlargerandmorepowerfulthanStark's,buthisengineersareunabletoconstructasmallenougharcreactortopowerthesuit.Aftersheleaves,Stanediscoverswhatshehasdone.HeambushesStarkinhishouse,usingaStarkIndustriesdevicetotemporarilyparalyzehim.WhilerevealinghisplantotakeoverStarkIndustries,StaneremovesthearcreactorfromStark'schestandleaveshimtodie.However,StarkgetstoPotts'giftandre-installshisoriginalreactor.Althoughhisoriginalreactorisunderpoweredforhislatestarmor,StarkracestorescuePotts,andabattleeruptsbetweenhimandStane.Findinghimselfoutmatched,StarkluresStaneatoptheStarkIndustriesbuilding.Withnopowerleft,StarkinstructsPottstooverloadthefull-sizedreactorinthebuilding.ThisunleashesamassiveelectricalsurgethatknocksStaneunconsciousandsendshimfallingthroughtheceilingintothereactoritself,incineratinghim.Thenextday,itisrevealedthatthepresshasdubbedStark'salterego"IronMan".Rhodesgivesreportersafalseexplanationofwhathappened.Beforespeaking,StarkbrieflymakesanattempttoestablisharomanticrelationshipwithPotts,butisputonhold.Duringthepressconference,StarkstartstotellthecoverstorygiventohimbyS.H.I.E.L.D.,anewly-establishedcounter-terrorismgovernmentagency,buttheninsteadannouncesopenlythatheisIronMan.Inapost-creditsscene,StarkisvisitedbyS.H.I.E.L.D.DirectorNickFury(SamuelL.Jackson)whonotesthatStarkisnot"theonlysuperherointheworld"andstateshewantstodiscussthe"AvengerInitiative".Page1Page2Page3Page4Page5Back
