3、gcaptivatingspacestomakealluringhospitality.Wetrytoshowinthisissuethevariousfacetsandcharmsofthesehotels.Hospitalityprojects–hotels,resorts,andrelatedbuildingtypes–offerunusualopportunitiesforcreativityinarchitectureandinteriordesign.Yetmanyarchitectsdon’tconsiderestablishinga
4、specialtypracticeinhospitality.Thismaylargelybeduetoitscyclicalnatureor,morelikely,totheinfluenceofhotelcorporations,whostifleinnovationandwhosebrandstandardsdiscouragenewideasandconcepts.Yet,asbusinessandleisuretravelnotonlygrowbutbecomeinexorablyintertwined,newhotelsandresor
5、tsneedtomeetanever-wideningrangeofneeds:customersexpectnotonlyguestrooms,restaurantsandbars,andmeetingvenues,butnewentertainment,recreation,andretailexperiences.Thatis,hotelstodaymustaddresstheguestexperience,ratherthansimplyprovidespaceforthetraditionallodginganddiningfunctio
6、ns.Overthelastcenturythehospitalityindustryhasseenwildgrowthspurts,followedbycrushingyearsoflimiteddevelopment.Always,whentheeconomyshowssignsofimproving,thereismomentumtodevelopnewhotelandresortproperties,oftenleadingtoover-building.Thesedevelopmentpeaksandvalleysarecausedbyf
