2、ies(seeUNNos.3090and3091,andtheapplicablespecialprovisionsofChapter3.3oftheModelRegulations).38.3.2Scope38.3.2.1Lithiumcellsandbatteriesshallbesubjectedtothetests,asrequiredbyspecialprovisions188and230ofChapter3.3oftheModelRegulationspriortothetransportofaparticu
3、larcellorbatterytype.Lithiumcellsorbatterieswhichdifferfromatestedtypeby:(a)Forprimarycellsandbatteries,achangeofmorethan0.1gor20%bymass,whicheverisgreater,tothecathode,totheanode,ortotheelectrolyte;(b)Forrechargeablecellsandbatteries,achangeinWatt-hoursofmoretha
4、n20%oranincreaseinvoltageofmorethan20%;or(c)Achangethatwouldmateriallyaffectthetestresults,".shallbeconsideredanewtypeandshallbesubjectedtotherequiredtests.Intheeventthatalithiumcellorbatterytypedoesnotmeetoneormoreofthetestrequirements,stepsshallbetakentocorrect
5、thedeficiencyordeficienciesthatcausedthefailurebeforesuchcellorbatterytypeisretested.38.3.2.2Forthepurposesofclassification,thefollowingdefinitionsapply:Aggregatelithiumcontentmeansthesumofthegramsoflithiumcontentorlithiumequivalentcontentcontainedbythecellscompr
6、isingabattery.Batterymeansoneormorecellswhichareelectricallyconnectedtogetherbypermanentmeans,includingcase,terminals,andmarkings.NOTE:Unitsthatarecommonlyreferredtoas“batterypack”,“modules”or“Batteryassemblies”havingtheprimaryfunctionofprovidingasourceofpowertoa
7、notherpieceofequipmentareforpurposesoftheseRegulationstreatedasbatteries.Buttoncellorbatterymeansaroundsmallcellorbatterywhentheoverallheightislessthanthediameter.Cellmeansasingleencasedelectrochemicalunit(onepositiveandonenegativeelectrode)whichexhibitsavoltaged
