2、beyondtheminimumrequirementsfortheGEOSSWebPortal.GISportalsorganizecontentandservicessuchasdirectories,searchtools,communityinformation,capacity-buildingresources,documents,models,data,andapplications.Theyprovidecapabilitiestoquerymetadatarecordsforrelevantdataandservices,andlinkdirectl
3、ytotheonlinesitesthathostcontentservices.Thecontentcanbevisualizedasmapsandusedingeographicqueriesandanalyses.OurrecommendationthatGEOapproachesitsdevelopmentoftheGEOWebPortalandClearinghouseusingaServicesArchitectureasindicatedinthediagrambelow:ThisSDIServicesArchitecureprovidesaninteg
4、ratedplatformthatcanaddressthefollowingobjectives:§Provideameansforcataloguing,discovery,andaccessofgeospatialresources,includingbutnotlimitedtodataandservices.§ProvideameansforGEOandotherstocontrolaccesstothesedataandservices.§ProvideanapplicationdevelopmentplatformusingopenApplication
5、ProgrammingInterfaces(API)tocommercialpartneringentities,thesciencecommunity,andGISprofessionals.§ProvideanenvironmentforauthoringdataandservicesthatintegratesseamlesslywithexistinggeospatialbusinessprocessesofGEOmember-,partner-,anduser-organizations.AppliedTechnologiesThefollowingsect
