2、yearperiod,wehavehad6ChinesePh.D.studentsquittheirRAshipandPh.D.studies.Thereasonforthemtoleavewasnotthattheycouldnotcontinue,itwasratherbecausetheywanttohaveajobnow(ahighersalary,withahopethatthecompanieswillapplyfortheirgreencardstatus).Theycamewiththierpromisestopursueth
3、eirPh.D.degrees,wepaidtuitionforthemtotakecoursesfortheirMasterdegree,andwetaughtandhelpedthemintheirresearchcapabilities.OncetheygottheirM.S.degreeinMechanicalEngeering,becauseoftheexcellentjobmarketintheU.S.atthistime,itisrelativelyeasyforthemtofindajob.Inawaywefeltthatwe
4、wereusedasastepforthoseChinesestudentstocomehere,andgettheirmaster'sdegree,thengettheirjobs.Wepayapproximately$45-50K/yearforeachPh.D.student,includingthetuition,healthinsurance,variousfees,labandcomputerfees,andmonthlysalary,wealsoputalotoftimeandeffortsforthem.They(mostof
5、them)alsodidgoodresearchworkasassistants.However,wedon'tgetcreditbecausewedon'tproducePH.D's,whichisoneofourmajorpurposesasaninstitution)ofhigheducation.Ontheotherhand,theyhavetheirparticularinterests)whicharealsounderstandable,forexample,financialpressure,andwishestohaveth
6、eirgreencardapplicationsonthewayasap.ThissituationalsohappenedtomyChinesePh.D.student.Heisverytalentedanddidagoodjobinresearch.However,afterhegothisM.S.inM.E.,heresignedveryrecently.Westilllethimstayherepresently(withsalary)foronemoremonth,otherwisehewillhavetorepayhistuiti
