4、several-yearperiod,biomassproductioninM.sativawilllationforbiomassproductionoverseveralyearsatthreelocationsvarydependingonboththeenvironmentalconditions(Ames,IA,Nashua,IA,andIthaca,NY)andconcurrentlydevelopedandthedevelopmentalstageofagivenplant.Unlikeageneticlinkagemapusingres
5、trictionfragmentlengthpolymorphismwoodyspecies,inwhicheachnewseasonalproductionof(RFLP)andsimplesequencerepeat(SSR)molecularmarkers.Trans-biomassextendsthepreviousyear_sgrowth,herbaceousgressivesegregants,manyofwhichexhibitedhighlevelsofheterosis,wereidentifiedineachenvironment.
6、Despitethecomplexitiesofmap-perennialslikeM.sativahaveallabovegroundbiomasspingwithinautotetraploidpopulations,single-markeranalysisofvari-removedrepeatedlysothateachgrowthperiodreplaces,anceidentified41markeralleles,manyonlinkagegroups5and7,ratherthanaugments,thebiomassproduced
7、previously.Asassociatedwithbiomassproductioninatleastoneofthesamplingtreesage,someofthegenomicregionsassociatedwithbio-periods.Sevenalleleswereassociatedwithbiomassproductioninmassproductionappeartochange(Wu,1998;Lerceteaumorethanoneofthesamplingperiods.Favorablealleleswerecon-e
