3、yin1818,andbeganathird,whichwaseventuallytitledSanditon,butdiedbeforecompletingit.IntroductionDuringAusten'slifetimeherworksbroughtherlittlepersonalfameandonlyafewpositivereviews.Throughthemid-nineteenthcentury,hernovelswereadmiredmainlybymembersoftheliteraryelite.However,thepublicati
4、onofhernephew'sAMemoirofJaneAustenin1869introducedhertoafarwiderpublicasanappealingpersonalityandkindledpopularinterestinherworks.Bythe1940s,Austenhadbecomewidelyacceptedinacademiaasa"greatEnglishwriter".ThesecondhalfofthetwentiethcenturysawaproliferationofAustenscholarship,whichexplo
