2、uetogaintractionanddemandincreases,manufacturersarebeginningtoimplementnewtechnologiestoreducepowerconsumptionathigherresolutions.Morethan100million5-inchFHDsmartphonepanelswillbeshippedin2013,5percentofallsmartphonedisplays・ThereareseveralmanufacturingtechnologiesthatcanproducetheactivematrixTFTb
3、ackplanefor5-inchFHDsmartphonepanels:traditiormla-SiTFT,oxideTFT,andlowtemperaturepolysilicon(LTPS)TFT,allofwhichareusedwithLCD.LTPSTFTcanalsobeusedasabackplaneforAMOLED(activematrixOLED)displays."WhileAppleiPhonesuppliersarefocusedontheproductionofLTPSLCDs,otherswithexperieneeinoxideTFTaretryingt
4、oaddresstheissueandgainacompetitiveadvantage,”saidYoonsungChung,directoroflarge-areadisplaysandFPDmaterialsforNPDDisplaySearch.“Eachofthesetechnologieshasitsownadvantmgesanddisadvantages,anditwillbecriticalforpanelmakerstochoosetheappropriatetechnologytoreachtheirgoals.nThevastmajorityofsmartphone
5、LCDscreensarenowproducedwitha-SiTFTdisplays,duetoitsmaturityandrelativelylowcost,despitethefactthatithaslowerperformancethanoxideorLTPSTFT.AccordingtothelatestNPDDisplaySearchQuarterlySmartphoneandTabletPCTFTLCDCostReport、themanufacturingcostgapbetweena-Siandoxidescreensisapproximately3percent,and
