2、anyotherenvironmentalthreats.Between1960and2012,theworldpopulationrosefrom3billiontobillion.Bytheyear2050,therewillbemanymorepeoplelivingonourplanet.Estimatesrangeanywherefromfifteentothirty-sixbillionpeople(seeFigure1).Thesepeopleneedfood,water,energyandaplacetol
3、ive・Thewaysinwhichweareprovidingthesenecessitiestothepeopleofthisplanetareworkingagainstahealthyenvironmentandmovingtowardsdemolishingourplanet.Inordertopreventourworldfromexperiencingfurtherharm,thehumanpopulationmustworktogethertoorganizeasystembeneficialtoourgr
4、owingneeds:asystemthatcanhelppeoplecaremoreaboutenvironmentalissuesandcreateharmonybetweenhumansandnature.Harmonyisrichinconnotationandfullofprofoundphilosophyofgreatwisdom.Itisafusionofdiversityandbalance・Harmonyreferstopeoplelivinginsyncwithinsociety,feelingsecu
5、re,safeandhappywithoutexploitationofoneanother.Inaddition,harmonyconnectspeoplewiththeirsurroundingenvironment.Weshouldunderstandwearenotseparatedfromnature;peoplearenatureanddependentuponit.Thispaperwillintroducethesustainabilitymovementandexplainhowthatcanreduce
6、negativeenvironmentaleffectsbycreatingbalancebetweenhumanneedsandnaturalhabitats.Accessibilityisanothermajorconcernintoday'sdesignworld・Formillionsofpeoplewithdisabilities,theaccessthatmostofustakeforgrantedisdifficult,impossible,orachievableonlywiththeinterventio
7、nofathirdparty.AccordingtotheU.S.CensusBureauapproximately56.7millionpeoplelivingintheUnitedStateshadsomekindofdisabilityin2010(Brault).Weliveinwhatisconsideredtobeanindependentsociety,yetindependentaccesstoprograms,facilities,andservicesarenoteasilyachievablebyma
8、ny.Physicalaccessishistoricallythearbiterofsuccessandthesourceofopportunityineducation,employment,andsocialfreedom.Thus,accessibilityisacivilrightsissue
