5、ndsyntacticconfigura-tionsarerelatedinsystematicways;,theinformalideabehindvariousformalizationsofthePROJECTIONPRINCIPLEisthattheinitialsyntacticrepresentationsareliterallybuiltonthebasisofthethematicrepresen-tationsstoredinthelexicon(0-GRIDS).Still,thenatureandstreng
6、thoftheprinciplesinvolvedremainquiteunclear.Inparticular,thereareimportantproblematicareaswhichseemtoresistprincipledattemptstoconstrainthemappingof6-gridsontoD-structures.OneclassicalproblemisraisedbyPSYCH-VERBS.Afairlystandardassumptionisthatinthegeneralcase,verbsex
7、pressingpsychologicalstateshaveauniform6-grid,involvinganEXPERIENtER.,theindividualexperiencingthementalstate,andaTHEME.,thecontentorobjectofthementalstate(seesection5fordetaileddiscussion).This6-gridcanbeprojectedontoavarietyofsyntacticconfigurationsinanapparentlyarb
