3、lyoperable.Thefirstphaseismodeledasalargescaleintegermulti-commoditynetworkflow(MCNF)problem.Abranch-and-priceintegerlinearprogrammingapproachisproposed.Preliminaryex-perimentshaveshownthattheapproachwouldnotyieldsolutionsinreasonabletimeforprobleminstancesexceedingabout100

4、0traintrips.Thetraincompanycollaboratinginthisresearchoper-atesover2400traintripsonatypicalweekday.Hence,aheuristichasbeendesignedforcompactingtheprobleminstancetoamuchsmallersizebeforetheILPsolverisapplied.Theprocessisitera-tivewithevolvingcompactionbasedontheresultsfrom
