3、cialnetworkofpersonalacquaintances,andthoseinwhich,conversely,networkconnectionsformbetweenindividualsofsimilarbeliefs.Whilebothoftheseprocessescangiverisetorealisticlevelsofagreementbetweenacquaintances,practicalexperiencesuggeststhatopinionformationintherealworldisnotaresultofoneprocessorth
4、eother,butacombinationofthetwo.Herewepresentasimplemodelofthiscombination,withasingleparametercontrollingthebalanceofthetwoprocesses.WeÞndthatthemodelundergoesacontinuousphasetransitionasthisparameterisvaried,fromaregimeinwhichopinionsarearbitrarilydiversetooneinwhichmostindividualsholdthesam
