4、nsofgenedispersalbypollenarenecessary,andasaresultnumerousplot-to-plotgeneflowexperimentshavebeenperformedwithvariouscrops.However,plot-to-plotcross-pollinationrates(CPR)dependonspatialconfigurationofplots,implyingthat(i)theyaredifficulttocompareamongexperimentsand
5、(ii)functionsdirectlyfittedonCPRdataareinappropriateforpredictionsinotherspatialcontexts.2.Modellingpollendispersalviaanindividualdispersalfunction(IDF)circumventstheseproblemsbyaccountingforspatialdesigns.Wedetailforoilseedrapehowthisapproachcanbeusedtobothestim
6、ateanIDFfromfielddataandpredictCPRbetweentwoneighbouringfieldsofvarioussizesandshapes.PredictionswereusedtoinvestigatethesensitivityofCPRtothefamilyofIDF,theuncertaintyinparameterestimatesandtheeffectsoffielddimensionsandisolationdistances.3.Wefittedarangeoffamilies
7、ofIDF,includingseveraltypesoftails,onpreviouslypublisheddata.ThebestIDFwasafat-tailedpower-lawfunction,meaningfrequentlong-distancedispersal.4.ThechoiceofIDFappearedcrucialwhenpredictingCPRbetweenfields,occasionallybeingevenmoreimportantthanthedistancebetweenfield
