2、ordingtothenatureoftheequipmentsoperatedbytheremotelaboratory,therequirementsimposedontheaccessingcomputers,thenetworklinkingtheusertothelaboratory,andthetypeofexperimentsthelaboratorysupports.Thispaperaddressesthedesignandimplementationofremotelaboratoriesemployingwebtechnolog
3、ies,bothattheclientandtheserverside.ThesetypesofremotelaboratoriesarecalledWebLabs,andcanbedeployedoverdifferentnetworkssuchasthepublicinternet,campuswidenetworks,orhigh-speedprivatenetworks.AlthoughmostpublishedworksonWebLabsfocusontheirfunctionalandoperationalaspects,nonfunct
4、ionalrequirementsrelatedtosecurity,qualityofservice,andfederatedoperationofWebLabshavereceivedlittleattention.ThispaperaddresseshowtheserequirementscanbeincorporatedintoWebLabdesign,anddiscussesthemostappropriatewebtechnologiestofulfillsuchrequirements.IndexTerms—Remotelaborato
